Dana: Conditionless Giving

Dana means to just give, whether in goods, money, or of oneself. It is the origin for the word Donate. In it’s deepest meaning Dana means to give of oneself for the sake of another, without regard or concern for recognition or benefit — anything else is a business deal, a tax-write off, an ego booster, an attempt to be well thought of like dressing to impress, etc., etc.

If you wish to practice Dana by making a donation to the Temple, you are invited to do so. But there is no condition attached to any form of Dana. To do so would make null and void the fundamental meaning and purpose of pure giving.

If you make a large donation to help people in suffering, try for a tax write-off, but don’t let not getting a write-off stop you from giving. It is the conditionless giving that is happiness, and the closer we get to that the closer we get to happiness. Giving ourselves for the betterment of others is its own reward, its own happiness.

What is Membership?
Becoming a member of the temple is an expression of your commitment to Senshin Buddhist Temple. It is a demonstration of annual financial support to the ongoing religious programs and operations of Senshin.

Senshin Buddhist Temple is an affiliated member of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA), the central organization which provides religious resources and programs for ministers and affiliated temples. A portion of your Senshin membership includes membership to BCA.

Why is it important to become a Member?
The temple maintains its facilities, operation and activities through fundraisers, contributions, and membership. Vehicle Donation Program

Senshin Buddhist Temple has a vehicle donation program that benefits our general fund.

This program makes it very easy and convenient for any member or friend of Senshin to dispose of a vehicle for which they no longer have any use. “Vehicle” refers to automobiles, pickups, trucks, motorcycles and boats.

We work with a company named “Harold’s Car Donation Service” (HCDS). The owner, Harold Beach, will arrange to pick up any donated vehicle from the donor’s location of choice (home, office or other).

The vehicle does not have to be in running condition. It will be picked up by a tow truck if it cannot be safely driven from the pick-up location. A unique feature of this program is that even if a vehicle is located in another state, HCDS can arrange to pick up that vehicle as a donation to Senshin.

After the vehicle is received by HCDS, it is evaluated, and if it is in running condition, the vehicle is detailed to prepare it for the auction block. Once sold, and after the auction preparation expenses are deducted, the proceeds are split 50/50 between Senshin and HCDS.

Even if the vehicle is not running and may be in poor condition, HCDS will take it to the salvage company, and the proceeds will again be split 50/50

Once the proceeds from the vehicle donation are received by Senshin, a letter is sent to the donor to acknowledge the vehicle donation. The letter includes details of the donated vehicle and the amount for which the vehicle was sold or salvaged. That entire amount (before the 50/50 split) can be claimed by the donor as a contribution to Senshin for tax deduction purposes. All donors will be acknowledged in the Prajna

If you have any questions about the program, or wish to donate a vehicle, please contact us at senshintemple@gmail.com

Osaisen Bako

Saisen means monetary offering to thank Buddha and Bako means a box

Saisen also means throwing money.  The temple is a place to throw away our ego and attachments.  It is a place to let go of the thought, “My own”, which causes many issues.  To throw “my” money into the Saisen Bako is to lessen that attachment.

This offering is strictly optional, and no amount is ever suggested. Saisen comes ‘from the heart’ with no obligation and no expectation of return of praise.

Osoji Temple Clean Up
